While the summer heat is great for fun and games, it isn’t as great for your vehicle. In fact, you can see some serious damage if you don’t properly prepare with GMC SUV service. Lunghamer Buick GMC shares how the heat can affect your SUV.

Battery Strain

Extreme temperatures can be hard on your SUV's battery, especially the heat. Hot temps can cause your battery fluid to evaporate and accelerate corrosion. We recommend having your battery tested to ensure it can handle the heat, especially if you have an older battery. If it’s too compromised, it may be time to replace it.

Overinflated Tires

The air in your tires expands in the heat, which leads to overinflation. Overinflated tires typically wear down unevenly, resulting in worse performance and long term damage to the tires. Make sure to regularly check your tire pressure and keep your tires as close to the recommended pounds per square inch (PSI) as possible. It’s also a good time to have your tires rotated, which helps to minimize uneven wear.

Reduced Oil Viscosity

Intense summer heat can reduce oil viscosity and accelerate oil degradation over time. This reduces its ability to lubricate and protect your engine, which can lead to engine wear and damage, or even overheating. To protect your engine, as well as improve performance and efficiency, it’s important to get a GMC oil change at the appropriate interval.
