The secret to the staggering power behind many of our trucks is the GMC TurboMax™ engine. It is designed to produce robust power while maintaining durability. Lunghamer Buick GMC is diving into all the details.

Engine Design

The GMC TurboMax™ engine features an inline four-cylinder arrangement and the large cylinders feed into an integrated exhaust manifold. It’s coupled with the dual volute turbo that produces turbo boost performance and superior responsiveness. The TurboMax™ engine’s heavy-duty durability is thanks in part to its forged-steel bottom, crankshaft, and main bearing caps. Plus, the cast-iron liners can give the rings a durable wear surface, which helps to protect your engine.

Benefits of the TurboMax™ Engine

With its smart design, the TurboMax™ engine is able to deliver diesel-like performance while still using regular fuel. It features a multi-hole direction injection, which uses up to 2,900 psi of pressure to remain efficient. The large-charge air cooler cools the warm and compressed air before it reaches the engine, which helps to deliver impressive towing capabilities.

Equipped GMC Models

There are two new trucks equipped with the TurboMax™ engine: the full-size 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 and the midsize 2026 GMC Canyon. Both trucks use a 2.7-liter TurboMax™ four-cylinder engine to deliver up to 310 horsepower and a class-leading standard torque of 430 lb-ft. The powerful engine helps the GMC Sierra 1500 tow up to 9,400 pounds. The GMC Canyon has an impressive 7,700-pound towing capacity as well.
